Center Frans Nielsen has signed a four-year contract extension with the New York Islanders, the team announced Wednesday. The Islanders didn't reveal the terms, but Canadian broadcaster TSN reported Nielsen will get $11 million, including $2 million in the first year, with an average annual cap hit of $2.75 million over the length of the deal. The 27-year-old Dane, in his sixth year with New York, has racked up nine goals and 16 assists over 52 games this season. He was chosen by the team in the third round of the 2002 NHL entry Draft. Nielsen had a break-out year last season, amassing 13 goals and 31 helpers for 44 points to go with a plus-13 rating. He has compiled 46 goals and 99 assists over his 289-game career.
