Four-time world footballer of the year Lionel Messi's Argentina went into half-time tied at 0-0 with Germany in the World Cup final on Sunday.
Argentina had the ball in the net through Gonzalo Higuain in the 29th minute but the goal was ruled offside.
The best chance of the first-half fell to Higuain as well. Toni Kroos's ill-judged back header fell into his path with only goalkeeper Manuel Neuer to beat, but the Napoli striker snatched at his shot which went wide.
Germany suffered a blow before kick-off as Sami Khedira withdrew with a calf muscle injury. His replacement Christoph Kramer only lasted half an hour before going off after a blow to the head.
