The Detroit Tigers said they signed free-agent outfielder Torii Hunter to a two-year contract, filling a need for a right-handed hitter and corner outfielder. Hunter and the Tigers struck a deal on a pact MLB.com said Wednesday was valued at $26 million and would keep Hunter employed until he turns 40. Hunter played last season with the Los Angeles Angels. The Angels did not offer him a new contract despite a solid year in which he hit .313 with 16 home runs and 92 RBI. He hit .340 against left-handers, an area Detroit had trouble with last season, MBL.com said. While Hunter hit between Mike Trout and Albert Pujols in Anaheim, he will likely bat second in Detroit between Austin Jackson and Miguel Cabrera.
