Terrence Ross scored 23 points to lead Washington to an 82-72 victory over Texas-Arlington in Tuesday's opening round of the National Invitation Tournament. C.J. Wilcox had 15 points and Darnell Grant 13 for the Huskies (22-10) who will face Northwestern in the next round. Washington shot 57.4 percent from the field, but was just 20-of-31 from the free-throw line -- and was outrebounded by the Mavericks (24-9) 33-24. Texas-Arlington was led by LaMarcus Reed with 20 points and Bo Ingram with 17. The Mavericks shot 40.3 percent from the field and 77.3 percent from the free-throw line. The score was tied 37-37 at halftime. Washington put together a 9-0 run, capped by a 3-point bucket by Darnell Grant with 2:59 to play, that put the Huskies up 77-65.
