Britain's John Whitaker, riding Argento, won Hong Kong's show jumping Grand Prix on Sunday, beating last year's champion Henrik von Eckermann in the top indoor equestrian event held in the southern Chinese city.
The veteran 59-year-old was the fastest of 13 riders who competed in the final run in the two-round competition, clearing all hurdles at 42.54 seconds.
Last year's winner, Sweden's Eckermann on Gotha FRH, came second at 43.28 seconds while French rider Simon Delestre, on Ryan des Hayettes, took third at 43.58 seconds.
But his countryman, prominent French rider Kevin Staut, pulled a rail at the final round and finished a disappointing ninth, while the world No 1. Scott Brash, riding nine-year-old Hello M'Lady, came in fifth after finishing at 44.15 seconds.
The contest, held at the AsiaWorldExpo, is the first leg of the three-event Masters Grand Slam Indoor world series, which will also be held in Los Angeles and Paris later this year.
