Tommy Milone pitched eight shutout innings and Josh Donaldson drove in the only run Monday in the Oakland Athletics' 1-0 verdict over Kansas City. Milone (1-0), making his sixth major-league start, handcuffed the Royals on three hits. The left-hander, penciled in as Oakland's No. 3 starter this season, issued three walks and didn't strike out a batter in the effort. Grant Balfour earned his second save with a scoreless ninth and Donaldson delivered an RBI single in the second for Oakland, which improved to 2-3 on the season. Kansas City's Luis Mendoza (0-1) was stuck with the loss after tossing 5 2/3 innings of one-run ball. He allowed five hits and four walks while fanning two batters.
