Australia's sixth-ranked Jason Day withdrew from next week's Players Championship, saying his injured left thumb needs more time to heal. The Aussie has made only one start since winning the World Golf Championship Match Play Championship in February, sharing 20th at the Masters last month. Day was expected to make his return next week at the Players, but Bud Martin, Day's agent, said the golfer would not be able to resume normal playing activities for a few weeks. In two other US PGA starts this season, Day shared second at Torrey Pines and missed the secondary cut at Pebble Beach. Day still seeks his first major title but is a three time major runner-up, the 26-year-old Queenslander having settled for second at the 2011 Masters and 2011 and 2013 US Opens. He was also third at the 2013 Masters. Day's first US PGA victory came at the 2010 Byron Nelson Championship. Source: AFP
