A ground announcer for England's drawn tour match in Alice Springs on Saturday was stood down by Cricket Australia for pronouncing Monty Panesar's name in an Indian accent. David Nixon had also been cautioned on Friday for comments made about Joe Root, according to a report. "Cricket Australia deemed the conduct of the PA announcer as inappropriate and as such he will take no further part in the match," a CA spokesperson said. Panesar, 31, who has played 48 Tests, was born in England of Indian descent. Australian Associated Press said Panesar had not heard the remarks made on the final day of the tourists' match with the Chairman's XI. England's team management said they had no knowledge of the matter until the announcer was replaced. A News Limited report said Nixon had been warned over comments made on Friday's first day of play. They included: "You can go and have another drink now, Joe" when England's Root was dismissed. The cricketer had a late-night clash with Australia's David Warner in an English bar during the Ashes series earlier this year. Source: AFP
