Egypt court overturns jail sentence of striker Zidan

Former Egypt striker Mohamed Zidan has had his six-year prison sentence for passing bad cheques overturned by a court in Cairo. Zidan reached an out-of-court settlement with his accuser in the case. In November, Zidan was convicted of issuing three bad cheques to an Egyptian real estate company. The 31-year-old has been out of action since leaving United Arab Emirates club Baniyas in January 2013. He now works as a pundit for Qatari broadcaster Al-Jazeera Sports, although he hasn't formally announced his retirement from playing. Zidan helped Egypt win African Cup of Nations titles in 2008 and 2010. His spell with the Pharaohs was marred by consistent disciplinary problems and accusations of feigning injury.
