Naft Tehran with its first-ever appearance in the AFC Champions League group stage achieved their historic 1-0 victory over Qatari side El Jaish in the AFC Champions League play-off at the Azadi Stadium on Tuesday.
After a goalless first half which featured little action, the Iranian side took the lead five minutes after the interval when forward Motahhari met midfielder Iman Mobali’s cross from the left to grab the only goal of the game.
Naft, currently leading the Iran league, now join inaugural AFC Champions League winners Al Ain, Uzbek champions Pakhtakor and Saudi Arabia King’s Cup holders Al Shabab in Group B of the AFC Champions League.
The Iranian side will now travel to Tashkent to face Pakhtakor in their Group B opener next Tuesday.
