Former Belgian international Frankie Vercauteren is the new coach of Portuguese club Sporting Lisbon, the club announced on Wednesday. Vercauteren, 55, takes over at the end of the month and until the end of the season from caretaker boss Oceano Cruz, who replaced Ricardo Sa Pinto, sacked earlier this month after the club's poor start to the season and a run of three consecutive defeats. In his managerial career, Vercauteren has taken charge of the Belgian national side, Anderlecht, where he won three Belgian league titles, and resigned as manager of Genk in August 2011 to move to Al-Jazira in the United Arab Emirates.
