Abu Dhabi - arabstoday

Tourism Development '&' Investment Company (TDIC), the master developer of tourism, cultural and residential projects in Abu Dhabi, alongside Abu Dhabi National Hotels (ADNH) and Pocari Sweat sponsored the Saadiyat Cup 2012 at Saadiyat Construction Village. The tournament was aimed at enriching the lives of those working at the construction village and develop physical strengths, good sportsmanship, and teamwork. The final match took place on the 6th of April, 2012 between the two finalists, "ETTS Fc" representing the Emirates Technical '&' Thermal System LLC Company and "Cairo Fc", which represented the Darby Contractors LLC. The competition was open to all construction workers living at the village, forming a total of sixteen participating teams divided to represent different organizations and construction companies. It was very well attended with the number of spectators reaching up to 500 and 600 per match. Nabil Almessabi, Senior Manager of Advisory Services at TDIC, who attended the finals to present the finalists with their awards, said: "This competition was organised as part of our ongoing commitment to encourage a community spirit at Saadiyat Construction Village. The championship was held for its second consecutive year, and was, once again, very successful. There are a lot of talented and skilled individuals here, and the competition gives workers on the island a chance to enjoy their time outside their working day, which is important given that they play such an important role in developing Saadiyat island." ETTS Fc won the tournament with a score of 3-0, becoming the champions of the Saadiyat Cup 2012. The winning and runner up teams received trophies as well as medals and giveaways, sponsored by TDIC, for their efforts during the tournament. The Saadiyat Construction Village currently houses more than 10,000 workers employed by contractors working on the island, and is a model of TDIC's best labour practices. It covers 40 hectares, and facilities include shops, Internet booths, recreational parks, laundry facilities, dining areas, and sports and leisure facilities such as a cricket pitch, multi-purpose courts and landscaped gardens.
