SuperSport United defeated ten-man Mamelodi Sundowns 2-0 at Orlando Stadium on Saturday to win the South African FA Cup for a third time. Sundowns had centre-back Clayton Daniels sent off after 19 minutes of the final before a sell-out crowd for fouling SuperSport forward Kermit Erasmus on the edge of the penalty area. It took another 21 minutes before United turned possession into a goal in the all-Pretoria showdown as defender Thabo September steered home a corner at the far post. The killer second goal came on the hour mark, with goalkeeper Wayne Sandilands blocking a close-range left-foot shot from Erasmus, who then drilled the rebound into the net with his other foot. Defeat left Sundowns coach and former Netherlands star Johan Neeskens without a trophy after collecting many winners' medals during a glittering playing career. Among the crowd who watched in warm, clear conditions was the squad of 2012 CAF Africa Cup of Nations champions Zambia, who are preparing in Johannesburg for FIFA World Cup™ qualifiers against Sudan and Ghana next month. With the victory, SuperSport earned the right to represent South Africa in the 2013 CAF Confederations Cup.
