London - Arabstoday

Ghana have sacked their coach, Goran Stevanovic, after the Black Stars failed to reach the final of the 2012 CAF Africa Cup of Nations. A statement today from the Ghana Football Association said it had "parted company" with Serb coach Stevanovic, who signed a two-year deal in January 2011. Assistant coach Kwesi Appiah has been named as his replacement on an interim basis. "We would like to express our gratitude to the general public for their concerns about the national team and their patience so far," Ghana FA president Kwesi Nyantakyi said in the statement. Ghana, 2010 FIFA World Cup™ quarter-finalists, had over a year ago appointed Stevanovic as the coach of the four-time African champions. Stevanovic, 45, promised to deliver Ghana a Cup of Nations trophy after a three-decade wait when he was contracted. But the team failed to win the 2012 tournament after they were knocked out by eventual winners Zambia in the semi-finals.
