Semifinals set in Olympic field hockey

Argentina, New Zealand, the Netherlands and Britain advanced to the Olympic women's field hockey semifinals Monday on the final day of group play. The United States finished last in its group after a 7-0 loss to South Africa. More goals were scored against the Americans by the South Africans than the United States women had allowed in the rest of their games put together. Argentina will meet Britain in the semifinals and New Zealand will face the Netherlands, which is seeking its second straight Olympic title. China, which lost to the Netherlands in the gold medal game four years ago, did not make the semifinals.
