Former Scotland manager, FIFA TSG member and UEFA's technical director Andy Roxburgh was hired on Friday as sporting director of the New York Red Bulls. One day after the club were ousted from the Major League Soccer playoffs by DC United, it hired the 69-year-old from Glasgow to take charge of all football-related activities with immediate effect "I am excited and honored to be given the opportunity by (Austrian club owner) Dietrich Mateschitz to contribute to the development of such an outstanding soccer organisation," Roxburgh said in a statement. "I'm also delighted to be getting involved in Major League Soccer, which has an impressive reputation as a fast growing and highly competitive league." Roxburgh was a forward for several British clubs in the 1960s as a player. "I'm thilled to have Andy on board," said Red Bulls global sporting director Gerard Houllier. "To have someone of Andy's caliber and experience shows the strength of our commitment to make the New York Red Bulls one of the best franchises in U.S. Soccer." FIFA
