Borussia Dortmund have extended the contract of their coach Jurgen Klopp until 2016. Klopp, whose previous deal was due to expire in 2014, has been rewarded for leading the club to the Bundesliga title last season and taking them into a share of top spot with Bayern Munich and Schalke after 19 rounds of matches this campaign. Dortmund's director of sport Michael Zorc has also been given a new contract with the same expiry of June 2016. "We are very pleased that we have been able to extend these contracts so soon," said Dortmund's general manager Hans-Joachim Watzke. "Both have achieved exceptional work in recent years. I felt during the negotiations with both of them that they are extremely motivated to help form the future of Borussia Dortmund." Klopp admitted that he did not need to think too long about accepting the club's offer. "I am lucky to be able to work for such a fantastic club," he said on the Westphalian club's website. "For me as head coach, it is important that the contracts of my team and with (assistant coaches) Zeljko Buvac and Peter Krawietz have been extended. We know how to value the faith shown in us by Dortmund with these long contracts." Klopp took charge of Dortmund in 2008 after spending seven years in charge of Mainz. He led them to sixth in his first year in charge and then into the Europa League in his second season. Last season, he guided Dortmund to their first Bundesliga title since 2002.
