Genoa have sacked Alberto Malesani after six months at the helm and appointed Pasquale Marino as his successor. The Serie A club confirmed the news on their website this afternoon, following last night's 6-1 defeat against Napoli at the Stadio San Paolo which left the Rossoblu 10th in the standings heading into the winter break. A club statement read: "Genoa CFC announces that it has entrusted responsibility of the first team to Pasquale Marino, who will be presented to the media on the occasion of the resumption of training, scheduled for December 29, at the Centro Sportivo Gianluca Signorini. "The new coach has signed a contract until June 30, 2013. The club thanks former coach Alberto Malesani, his assistant Ezio Sella and backroom staff Paolo Aiello and Antonio Raione for the work they have done in the past months and for the relationships established at the club during their stay in Genoa."
