Three quick goals The hosts doubled the lead 15 minutes later as Eugen Polanski lobbed a ball over the defence to Elkin Soto, who fed Szalai for an easy push into the goal from three yards out. Mainz made it 3-0 on the half-hour mark from a counter attack, with Zidan passing down the right side to Muller, who after a few more strides blasted home. Kaiserslautern were close to pulling a goal back in the 44th minute but Christian Tiffert struck the crossbar and Mathias Abel's header from the ensuing corner was stopped by Mainz goalkeeper Christian Wetklo. Mainz were close to finishing off the visitors for good in the 50th minute but Kaiserslautern's Ariel Borysiuk cleared Jan Kirchhoff's header off the line. And the hosts did the job in the 74th minute as Niko Bungert's header went to Choupo-Moting, who poked home from nine yards out.
