Eddie Gaven helped the Crew's playoff hopes Sunday with a stoppage-time goal that pulled Columbus in to a 1-1 draw with Sporting Kansas City. One minute into extra time, Gaven found himself unmarked 10 yards from the goal and got his head on Emilio Rentería's cross and put it into the net past SKC goalkeeper Jimmy Nielsen. The late tally earned a much-needed point for the Crew (14-11-7, 49 points), who remained one point behind Houston in the race for the fifth and final Eastern Conference playoff spot with two contests remaining. C.J. Sapong scored in the 10th minute for East-leading Kansas City (17-7-8, 59), which fell further behind San Jose (64 points) in the competition for the Supporters Shield, indicative of the league's best record.
