Manchester City completed the signing of midfielder Javi Garcia from Benfica in a last-minute deal as the transfer window slammed shut. The 25-year-old, who plays in a defensive role, signed for an undisclosed fee from the Portuguese league runners-up just as the official deadline passed. The Spain international was the fifth signing made by City during a late flurry of activity at Eastlands which included a double swoop for Inter Milan defender Maicon and Swansea City winger Scott Sinclair. Manager Roberto Mancini's move for Sinclair was followed by the surprise capture of right-back Maicon, as well as the arrival of former Arsenal goalkeeper Richard Wright on a free transfer. The Premier League champions also landed Serbia defender Matija Nastasic from Fiorentina for an undisclosed fee. To make room for his fresh recruits, Mancini sold Nigel de Jong to AC Milan, while Paraguay striker Roque Santa Cruz moved to Malaga on a season-long loan. FIFA
