A brace from Marcelo Carrusca has helped Adelaide United to a 3-1 A-League victory over Wellington Phoenix at Hindmarsh Stadium. Carrusca opened the scoring after 19 minutes with a 25-yard free-kick before the former Galatasaray man doubled his side's advantage with a powerful effort from the edge of the area five minutes later. The visitors looked like they had struck back immediately through Stein Huysegems, however the Belgian was adjudged to have been offside, although replays suggested the goal should have stood. With the first half coming to a close Carrusca played in Fabio Ferreira, who beat the offside trap before placing his shot into the net. Phoenix scored a consolation with 10 minutes left when Tyler Boyd cut the ball back to Dani Sanchez who needed two efforts to beat Eugene Galekovic. Boyd should have added a second but his penalty was saved by Galekovic after Nigel Boogaard had been fouled in the area. It was Adelaide's eighth win of the season and maintains the pressure on Central Coast at the top who sit just one point above United in the table.
