Legendary French slalom canoeist Tony Estanguet sealed his third gold medal on Tuesday with victory in the C1 class final at the Lee Valley Basin. The 34-year-old emulated his wins at the 2000 Sydney Games and 2004 Athens Games with a superb display to take gold ahead of Germany's Sideris Tasiadis and Slovakia's Michal Martikan. The triumph made up for Estanguet's nightmare at the 2008 Beijing Games, where he failed to reach the C1 final. Estanguet's family has a rich heritage in canoeing, with father Henri winning silver and bronze medals in the Wildwater Canoeing World Championships in the late 1970s. His brother Patrice won a bronze medal in the C1 slalom at the 1996 Olympic Games in Atlanta.
