Canales tight-lipped on Emery's future

The 40-year-old has come under mounting pressure in recent weeks and he allegedly informed his troops on Friday that he will be leaving Mestalla in the summer.Sergio Canales has refused to confirm reports that Unai Emery has already told Valencia's players that he will be standing down as coach at the end of the season.The under-fire 40-year-old reportedly informed his troops of his decision to resign in Friday's training session ahead of the Primera Division clash with Betis at the weekend.However, there has been no official statement on the matter from either Emery or the club, and Canales was remaining tight-lipped when quizzed about his coach's future on Monday."For now the most important thing is for us to unite and ensure that we are all rowing in the same direction," the attacking midfielder is quoted as saying by AS.On a personal level, Canales' current focus is getting back to full fitness after making his return from the knee ligament injury he suffered at the tail end of October in Sunday's 4-0 win over Betis."It was important to get back playing after so many months out," he admitted."It went pretty well, although I have a lot to improve upon in order to reach my top level, but from here I think I will only get better."Canales is now hoping he can play some part in Thursday's Europa League semi-final showdown with Atletico Madrid, with Los Che trailing 4-2 after last week's first leg at the Vicente Calderon."It will be very important to both score goals and keep a clean sheet," he mused.
