Toluca moved top of the Mexican Apertura on goal difference with a 4-1 win over Santos Laguna on Sunday, despite playing for an hour with ten men. Wilson Mathias (11) and Antonio Rios put Toluca 2-0 ahead before Edgar Benitez was sent off on the half hour mark. The home side managed to increase their lead in the second half through Luis Tejada (64) before Oribe Peralta (69) pulled one back, but Lucas Silva ended any faint hopes of a fightback with Toluca's fourth in the 77th minute. In the day's other game, Atlante beat Guadalajara 3-1 despite also having a man sent off. Cristian Maidana's early goal and a first-half double from Esteban Paredes meant the home side were able to make light of Maidana's dismissal just before the hour mark. Guadalajara finally pulled a goal back with an 89th-minute penalty from Marco Fabian. FIFA
