French embassy : criticism of French national anthem played during Hollande's Cairo visit "meaningless argument"

The French embassy in Cairo described media reports criticizing the way the French national anthem was played upon the arrival of President Francois Hollande this week in Cairo was just a "meaningless argument".

The French national anthem "La Marseillaise" was played appropriately, the embassy said in a press release.

The French president and his accompanying delegation were very touched by the great respect and attention given to them during the visit, the statement said.

The visit has opened promising horizons of development and close partnership between France and Egypt in all fields, it concluded.
