Egypt strongly condemns Jakarta attacks, stresses support for Indonesia

Egypt on Thursday strongly condemned the terrorist attacks that hit the Indonesian capital Jakarta and killed a number of people.

In a statement, the Egyptian Foreign Ministry stressed strong support for Indonesia in the face of terrorism.

It offered condolences to the families of the victims, hoping speedy recovery for the injured.

At least seven people -- five attackers and two civilians -- were killed in Jakarta Thursday as militants launched suicide, shooting and bombing attacks that tore through a Starbucks cafe and shook an embassy district in the Muslim-majority nation.

Police declared the attack over after several hours, and said no more assailants were on the loose.
