Naguib Sawiris
Cairo - Akram Ali
Naguib Sawiris Cairo - Akram Ali The head of the liberal Free Egyptians Party, Naguib Sawiris, the founder of Liberal Egyptian bloc stressed in a statement to 'Arabstoday' that the security situation in Egypt is left behind and the economic situation suffers from the consequences of the events taking place in the Egyptian political arena. "The Arab countries are facing a great challenge having no plan for the future," he said during "Change in the Arab World, Democracy and Pluralism" conference organised by the Union of Democratic centrist parties and the Lebanese Phalange party in Beirut. "Several Egyptians want to establish a civil State, yet, the new majority in Parliament practices tyranny of force and rejects the dialogue with the other parties", he added. Meanwhile, in an interview with 'Arabstoday', Sawiris pointed that Egyptian young people, who were desperate, have made an actual change and unveiled the reality of the preceded generation. The political leader has then said that the political class should not be unjust towards young people, as they spontaneously went out to change the former regime which oppressed them and prevented them from achieving democracy and freedom. Sawiris than said that Tahrir Square has been kidnapped; consequently, young Egyptians went back there once more the last week, stressing that they do not belong to Islamic movements, and to say: "we are those who achieved democracy. If you are going to act against us, you can find us still here." "We are facing a great challenge and we have the right to be concerned about our destiny and that of the revolution as well. We need time to establish a civil state based on freedom and equality among all religions and we hope to have a dialogue and cooperation between all the parties, as well to learn from Lebanon how to live together with different points of view and take part in the governance of the country," he said. Finally, Swairis said Egyptian people do not need a religious country, but a country with different religious faiths. "We have to establish Egyptian parties, not religious ones," he claimed.
