Repair works on the Arabtsko-Pokrovskaya line of the Moscow metro are expected to take 30 hours. Three train carriages derailed between the Park Pobedy and the Slavyansky Bulvar metro stations at 8:30 in the morning on Tuesday.
"The repairmen will need 24-30 hours to finish all the works before normal train traffic could be resumed,” Moscow’s Vice-Mayor Pyotr Biryukov told a government commission for emergency situations.
Russian Emergencies Ministry Vladimir Puchkov said, in turn, that passengers and the population should be kept duly informed of what’s going on.
“This concerns the operation of metro, public transport and all the services as well as measures taken to help the victims,” Puchkov went on to say.
Vice-Mayor Biryukov said there were no traffic jams on the Moscow roads, adding the city had provided 200 buses to carry the passengers.
