A total solar eclipse will march across the United States on Monday for the first time in 38 years and will not be repeated before 2024.
This total solar eclipse will be the last in the four solar and lunar eclipses took place in 2017.
Egypt will not witness the anticipated solar eclipse while all of North America will witness an eclipse of the sun for the first time in 99 years.
The moon will pass in front of the sun and cast a shadow over a 70-mile-wide cross-section of the continent known as the “path of totality.”
The total solar eclipse can sometimes take as long as 7.5 minutes. The longest eclipse duration for this event will occur in Carbondale, Illinois, and will clock in at two minutes, 43 seconds,
Everyone in North America, parts of South America, Africa and Europe will see at least a partial solar eclipse, where the moon covers only a part of the sun.
The path of totality, where the moon's shadow will completely cover the sun, is a diagonal band that cuts across the country, about 100 kilometers wide. Those outside that narrow band can still see a partial eclipse, extending up to Canada and down to the top of South America.
