At least seven security personnel were killed and eighteen others wounded in two suicide attacks in Afghan capital Kabul on Wednesday, said officials.
Brig. Gen. Humayun Aini, in charge of the police help line told media that seven Afghan National Army (ANA) soldiers were killed and 15 others wounded when one bomber targeted their bus in Karta-i-Char area. Moments later, another three soldiers were wounded in another suicide attack in Tarakhel neighborhood of Deh Sabz district.
Chief of the Kabul police investigation department, Brig. Gen. Farid Afzali told media, "There have been two suicide attacks targeting buses carrying Afghan national army personnel." General Zahir Azimi, Ministry of Defense spokesperson confirming the toll said, "Six military personnel and one civilian were killed in one attack, and 15 were injured. Four military personnel were injured in the other attack." The attack came a day after Afghanistan and the United States on Tuesday signed the long-delayed bilateral security agreement (BSA) to allow about 10,000 US troops to stay in the country next year. The signing took place on newly inaugurated President of Afghanistan, Ashraf Ghani's first day in office.
Security forces reached the scene soon after the rush hour bombing and cordoned off the area. According to local media reports, Afghan Taliban claimed responsibility for both blasts and said at least 20 soldiers were killed.
Taliban spokesman Zabihullah Mujahid told media that this is a clear message to the stooge government that signed the slave pact, and we will step up our attacks after this.
