
At least five people were killed and many others wounded on Saturday night in a suicide attack in Quetta city of southwestern Balochistan province of Pakistan, said officials.
Senior police official Abdul Razaq Cheema confirmed that the powerful explosion was a suicide attack. He told media that the suicide bomber detonated his explosives in the crowded Hazara Town area of the city, where people were shopping for the religious festival 'Eid al Adha'.
Quetta, the provincial capital of the resources-rich province has been struck by another blast earlier in the day where seven people were injured. According to police, the militants tried to target a police vehicle through Improvised Explosive Device on Quetta's Spini road area, wounding seven civilians.
The injured were taken to nearby hospitals for treatment where an emergency was imposed soon after the blast. A huge contingent of police and paramilitary personnel cordoned the site of the blast and probe into the incident went underway.
