Eleven members of a family were killed after a jeep carrying them collided head on with a dumper truck in central Indian state of Madhya Pradesh, police said on Saturday.
The accident took place on Ujjain-Aagar Malwa road near Palwa village in Ujjain district, about 191 km west of Bophal city, capital of Madhya Pradesh.
"Yesterday in a tragic road accident 11 members of a family including five women and two children were killed after a jeep they were travelling in collided with a dumper truck in Ujjain," a police official said.
Angered over the deaths, which wiped out a family, a mob set the dumper truck on fire, reports said. The victims were identified as locals from Mahidpur town.
In a separate road accident in western state of Rajasthan on Saturday, six people were killed and 13 others injured when a over-speeding vehicle overturned in the state's Karuli district, officials said.
Deadly road accidents are common in India often caused due to overloading, bad condition of roads and reckless driving.
Global Road Safety Report 2015 released by WHO last year said India accounts for more than 200,000 deaths annually due to road accidents.
