Hungarian train collision
Budapest - XINHUA

A new report on a Sunday morning train collision says that 19 people were hurt, two of them seriously, and that the two trains collided near the Galgaguta train station, roughly 65 km northeast of Budapest.

The official report was issued by Hungarian State Railways (MAV). The report changed the crash site to the vicinity of the Galgaguta train station, some 15 km from the Galgamacs station indicated in the initial report.

MAV confirmed that the two commuter trains were traveling in opposite directions and collided at comparatively low speeds of 20 km per hour. Neither was derailed.

The report confirmed that there were only about 30-40 passengers aboard the two trains but changed the number of injured from 10 to 19, indicating that two of the injuries were serious. It also confirmed that one of the engineers was among the injured. There were no fatalities.

MAV and the police have launched an investigation into the cause of the accident.
