A flash flood in southwest China's Yunnan Province has killed nine people and left another five missing, the Ministry of Civil Affairs said Tuesday in a statement.
By 9 a.m., more than 1,600 people had been affected and 100 hectares of crops were destroyed in the cities of Baoshan, Lincang and Dali, the ministry said.
The flash flood struck Xiping Village in Baoshan at around 4:50 a.m. Monday. Relief materials including quilts, blankets and tents have been sent to the village, Xinhua quoted local authorities as saying.
Heavy rain and flooding also hit Jiangsu, Jiangxi and Sichuan, the ministry added.
