Karachi - UPI
Heavy rains and flash floods triggered by monsoons killed at least 60 people in several Pakistani provinces, officials said Monday. Rain that began Saturday in hard-hit Karachi still fell intermittently Monday over parts of the city, creating problems for rescue operations, NDTV reported. Nearly two dozen people were killed in roof collapses, electrocutions and drownings, bringing the total to more than 100 killed by monsoon-related weather, The News International reported. Military personnel were dispatched to Karachi to help move hundreds of stranded people to safer ground. Officials said hundreds of hectares of crops also have been damaged. Monsoons also inundated parts of Khyber-Pakhtunkhwa, Balochistan and Punjab provinces, NDTV said. Officials said train service was interrupted because of flooding. Power service also was interrupted throughout the flooded areas.
