Minibus crash kills 13 people in central Tanzania

At least 13 people were killed and three others sustained injuries on Monday when a speeding lorry rammed into a minibus along Singida-Dodoma highway in central Tanzania's Singida region.
Singida Regional Police Commander Godfrey Kamwela told Xinhua via telephone that the accident occurred in a village called Isuna in Ikungi District when a Scania lorry smashed into a Toyota Noah minibus.
The minibus was coming from Itigi Township through Manyoni to Singida Municipality, an area located about 570 km from the country's commercial capital of Dar es Salaam.
"It is not clear on what happened before the accident, though the minibus is badly damaged and all people who were in the minibus died," the RPC said, adding that survivors from the lorry were rushed to Singida Regional Hospital for observation and treatment.
"Driver of the Toyota Noah minibus was among the dead. This accident involves three who are family members. As I am speaking now, 10 people out of 13 have been identified by their relatives," he said, adding that police officers are working on the matter so as to establish the cause of the horrific accident.
Kamwela said earlier investigation shows that the accident is caused by reckless driving and over-speeding.
The accident came barely a week when a horror accident occurred in Southern Highlands' region of Iringa, killing 50 passengers.
