Landfill erosion triggers collapse of houses

A house which collapsed during an erosion of the garbage dump, at Kolonnawa in the outskirts of Colombo yesterday. Following the monsoon rains, the garbage dump collapsed, damaging 50 houses nearby. Authorities evacuated the residents of more than 125 houses in imminent danger. Most of these houses are unauthorised structures on marshy lands.
