
An Israeli teen died and several others were afflicted in varying degrees caused by Hyperthermia and dehydration in a heatwave, emergency serviced said in a statement.
An 18 year-old died of hyperthermia during a tour in the old town of Jerusalem. Zaki Heller, spokesperson of the Magen David Adom (the Israeli Red Crescent) said paramedics tried to resuscitate the teen after he collapsed however he died soon after reaching Jerusalem's Sha'arei Tzedek hospital.
Beside Jerusalem, in the West Bank Jewish settlement of Ma'ale Adumim, a 59 year-old construction worker also suffered from hyperthermia and was seriously harmed. He is currently hospitalized at the Hadassah Har Hatzofim hospital.
Three women Tuesday suffered light to moderate damages also from dehydration during a trip in the Judea desert, situated in the West Bank east of Jerusalem, and were evacuated to the Hadassah Har Hatozfim hospital as well.
A year old baby was brought Monday to the Ziv hospital in the northern town of Safed in critical condition, suffering from dehydration following a family trip in the Hula valley in northern Israel. Her father suffered moderately from dehydration as well.
The current heatwave began Sunday and is expected to continue throughout the week, with temperatures soaring beyond the 40° Centigrade (104° Fahrenheit) line in several areas.
The Magen David Emergency Services treated over 160 individuals affected by the heat, and over 80 individuals who fainted along with 14 others suffering from dehydration, Zaki Heller told Xinhua.
