The situation in Ukraine’s southeast remains critical: Ukraine’s forces continue shelling the cities, which are cut off water, electricity or food supplies, municipal authorities of Donetsk and Lugansk said on Saturday.
The past night was not quiet for residents of the two cities. Salvoes and explosions were heard in Donetsk, several houses were destroyed. No casualties are reported.
Donetsk authorities say over 40,000 residents remain without electricity. The administration says electricity supplies to the Southern water station, which pumps water to two districts, has been resumed.
In Lugansk, the actual blockade and intense shelling continue. Press service of the city’s authorities says Lugansk “is in a very critical situation: there is no electricity, water, cell or ground communication.” The shelling, which continued through the night, caused many fires.
“The situation with food remains unchanged: only the very necessary products are on sale. Another big problem is lack of supplies of medicines and fuel. All banks are closed, pensions and wages are not paid out,” Lugansk authorities report on the official website.
