Four members of security forces, three Gendarmerie personnel and one from the Public Security Department, were killed Tuesday in a raid of a house in the southern city of Karak where a group of wanted men barricaded themselves and fired at police, according to a security source.
It said the raid was part of an ongoing joint security operation against a number of wanted people in Karak, but made clear that the suspects in the house were not members of the terrorist gang which carried out the criminal attack in the city on Sunday that killed seven security men, two civilians and a Canadian tourist.
"The campaign being conducted now by a joint security force in Karak is within the raids to arrest a number of suspects", Jordan News Agency, Petra, quoted the source as saying.
It also warned against circulating false news, rumours or videos on social networks, which could harm the security campaign, demanding that the media rely only on official sources for information.
