An explosion hit a bus in western Kabul, near the city's university on Wednesday, causing casualties, sources said. "An explosion targeted a bus in 3rd police district, leaving casualties,"Deputy Interior Minister Mohammad Ayoub Salangi said in his twitter account.
The nature of the blast is not known but a suicide car bombing is suspected. It is not clear whether the bus was carrying military or civilian government employees when the attack took place.
The blast occurred at around 6:30 a.m. in Jamal Mina locality about 200 meters away from the Kabul University's northern gate.
No group has claimed responsibility for the attack but the Taliban insurgent group was likely behind such attacks.
The government troops immediately cordoned off the area shortly after the blast.
Police work to keep people from gathering at the scene for fears that there might be a second blast.
The blast caused a plume of grey smoke to rise above the scene.
