Accra - Xinhua

Three more people have reportedly died in more attacks on Fulani herdsmen at Gushegu, a farming community near Tamale, the capital of the Northern Region, about 658 km north of the capital city, bringing the total casualties so far to nine, police confirmed on Wednesday. Nine more people were also seriously injured while three othere who were in critical condition had been rushed to the Tamale General Hospital, district police commander Assistant Commissioner of Police (ACP) George Tuffuor told the media. The attacks reportedly occurred at dawn on Wednesday. Police has been reinforced in the area to ensure that the situation would not be escalated. The Fulanis, nationals of Niger, Chad and Mali, have been bringing their cattle down south when the weather in the Sahelian region makes it difficult for grass to sprout naturally, especially during the long dry season. Ghana, being in the south and with a relatively greener pasture, is an attractive destination for these nomads. However, their activities continue to pose problems to farming communities in Ghana, who accused the nomads of destroying large tracts of their farms.
