The death toll in a building collapse in India's southern city of Chennai rose to 17 Monday with rescuers finding more bodies overnight, news reports said Monday, dpa reported.
An 11-storey building under construction caved in on Saturday,
trapping workers and some passersby.
Rescuers pulled 22 survivors from the rubble, but 40 people were
still unaccounted for, broadcaster NDTV reported quoting state
officials.
Seven bodies were recovered and two survivors were rescued overnight, it said.
A police official said teams were removing debris slowly in the hope
of saving lives.
"Clearing the debris is a huge challenge. This will take two to three
days," he said.
