British Foreign Minister Borris Johnson warned Libya of early elections referring to British Prime Minister Theresa May's disastrous decision to call a snap election shows the risk of going to the polls too early, the Telegraph reported Friday.
Johnson told Libyan politicians, during his visit to Libya, that May's failure to secure a majority highlights the risk of calling an election too soon as Libya is deeply divided with two rival Parliaments and four Governments.
He urged the nations political leaders to come together and set aside their political differences.
He warned that unless Libya can reach a political union it risks becoming the "frontline" in the UK's fight against terrorism and illegal immigration.
"In Libya today there are three guns for every human, but there is no single source of law or authority," he said
There are umpteen militias vying with the Libyan National Army for control of the vast and lawless spaces on the map as these lawless spaces are grounds of terrorists and people smugglers, the minister added.
"Unless and until this country has a functioning and unifying government, Libyans will continue to suffer grievously," Johnson said.
