A remote-controlled car bomb exploded in the Somali capital of Mogadishu on Saturday, killing at least three people and injuring 10 others, including a senior police officer, security members and witnesses said.
The blast occurred on one of the busiest roads in the capital, and came from a car laden with explosives that was parked on the side of the road, security official Mohamed Hassan told dpa.
The powerful explosion was heard in several parts in the capital. A senior Somali police officer and several of his bodyguards were among those wounded and are believed to be the target of the attack, Hassan said.
Several civilians who were at the nearby Al-kowthar shopping center at the time of the blast were killed, witness Alibashi Abddullahi said.
