One Afghan soldier was killed while another wounded in a gunfire exchange at provincial governor's office building in the eastern Afghan province of Nangarhar on Wednesday, while unofficial sources claimed three NATO soldiers were also wounded in the incident.
"A visiting NATO-led military official team was leaving the compound. An Afghan soldier opened fire at their vehicle. During the exchange of fire the attacker was killed and one Afghan soldier was wounded," a security official who declined to be named told Xinhua.
Further details were not available so far about the gunfight that took place at around midday in the provincial capital of Jalalabad, the source said, adding that an investigation was launched into the incident.
Several NATO-led troops have been killed in the insider attack when Afghan soldiers or gunmen in their uniform opened fire on coalition troops over the past couple of the years.
In January, three foreign contractors with the NATO-led forces were killed after an Afghan soldier shot at a military airport in the capital of Kabul.
The U.S. and NATO-led troops switched from combat to support role, which focuses on training, advising and assisting Afghan forces since Jan. 1.
Nearly 13,000 foreign forces are currently stationed in the country and being involved in the mission.
