The death toll in a south China minivan tragedy has risen to five, as rescuers found another body Tuesday, three days after the vehicle was washed away by a rain-triggered flood.
Four people were confirmed dead and one remained missing following the accident in Guangxi Zhuang Autonomous Region at midday on Saturday.
The local government said the body of the last victim belonged to the driver.
The minivan, carrying 17 people, was crossing an old bridge in Jinxiu Yao Autonomous County when it veered off, tumbled into the swelling river and was washed away.
The local government said the bridge had been closed for safety considerations several days previously and that half of it was already submerged. The minivan driver ignored a no entry sign.
The other 12 people in the van survived with slight injuries.
