Mexican authorities discovered five charred and decapitated bodies Sunday in the turbulent state of Guerrero, state prosecutors said.
The bodies were found early Sunday morning in the back of a truck near the town of Chilapa, about 200 miles (330 kilometers) from Mexico City, a statement from state prosecutors said.
Examiners identified the remains as likely those of three businessmen and two architects from the state of Morelos who were reportedly kidnapped Wednesday, a prosecutor told AFP.
The grisly discovery comes after authorities found 11 other similarly burned and decapitated bodies in the same Guerrero town last week.
Guerrero is also where 43 Mexican students are believed to have disappeared, likely massacred at the hands of gangs allied with corrupt local officials.
The region has been the site of bitter drug cartel feuds and it became the Mexican state with the highest murder rate in 2013.
