Three people were killed and six injured in two separate incidents of building collapse in the Indian financial capital here Saturday, said police.
Two pavement dwellers were killed and another injured when a portion of a building fell on them while they were sleeping in Jai Bhim Nagar early Saturday morning, said the police.
The incident took place shortly after midnight as the wall of the building was weakened by the ongoing heavy rain which has been pounding the city for days.
In another incident, at least one person has been killed and six others injured when an under-construction building collapsed in south Mumbai.
Several others are feared trapped inside the debris of the building which collapsed in posh Colaba, a major tourist attraction.
Rescuers have swung into action to bring out those feared trapped under the debris of the building. A probe has been ordered into the incident.
Building collapses are common in India, mainly because of poor construction to meet the growing needs of affordable housing for the country's newly urbanized population.
These are the latest in the series of building collapses in Mumbai, known for congestion in residential areas.
In March, seven people died and several others injured after a seven-storey residential building collapsed in Mumbai's Santacruz area.
Last year, 74 people were killed when another building collapsed like a pack of cards in Mumbai.
Over 45 people were killed in a building collapse in the southern Indian city of Chennai earlier this month.
